HEARTWELL LEAGUE HISTORY

Heartwell Cal Ripken-Babe Ruth League has changed our
name to Heartwell Baseball Inc. (October 2010)
We will still be referred to as Heartwell Cal Ripken-Babe Ruth League but operated by Heartwell Baseball Inc.

Honor, Integrity, and Nothing but the Truth

Plaza Little League, Inc.
Is happy to announce that we have changed our name to
Heartwell Cal Ripken Babe Ruth League

We would like for all of our members to understand that we are the same corporation that has been hosting the youth baseball program at Heartwell Park East since 1955 (incorporated in 1956). The Board of Directors for Heartwell Cal Ripken - Babe Ruth League are the same Board of Directors as Plaza Little League, Inc. that was elected in May of 2008. The only difference is that we have voted to sign a charter with Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken rather than with Little League. For this reason we were required to do a name change. HEARTWELL CAL RIPKEN - BABE RUTH LEAGUE

Corporation Number: C0323584 (incorporated on 07/06/1956)

There has also been another group out there pretending to be Plaza Little League Inc. Their new name is Long Beach Plaza Little League (incorporated on 10/31/2008)  and not Plaza Little League, Inc. (incorporated on 07/06/1956).

 LONG BEACH PLAZA LITTLE LEAGUE

Corporation Number: C3134588  (incorporated on 10/31/2008)

It is important that you understand that prior to March 7th, 2009 this other corporation has never hosted a baseball game or tournament and it did not hold a charter with Little League in 2008 or any other year, and it has never held permits for the fields or facilities at Heartwell Park East where we are located.

Plaza Little League, Inc. was a non-profit corporation in existence since 1956. Recently, the Board of Plaza Little League, Inc. voted to change our name to Heartwell Cal Ripken-Babe Ruth League and create a new charter agreement with the Cal Ripken baseball program.  Why would the Board do this?  Over the past 5 years, there has been a consistent decline in the number of available players due to the border restrictions currently in place with Little League baseball.  This leads, unfortunately, to many players living outside our official boundary.  When such a large number of players are out of the area, post-season play is compromised since those out-of-area players are not eligible to play in post-season (per Little League regulations).

As a Board, we have a duty to react to our environment and try to grow our baseball program.  The switch to Cal Ripken enables the opening of border restrictions and gives the players a better baseball experience.  More players, more teams, more fun, and all players now eligible to play in post-season.   In our first season, we increased our membership by more than 200 players.

For those who have played at Plaza in the past and enjoyed our program, we are the same corporation that has been here since 1955.  We are simply changing our name and creating a new charter agreement with Cal Ripken.  Our new charter will begin January of 2009.  We look forward to seeing you and your children when our new program starts in the Spring.
